The Ursid meteor shower and a full Moon mark this longest night of 2018. I love the solstice and the start of winter with the promise of each day getting longer. I love being on the farm to see the night sky and watch the plants in the garden change with the seasons.
I am grateful for family; it’s wonderful having Alima and Sidik in the Atlanta area and technology keeps me in contact with family in Ghana. I am forever grateful for my mom; a caring mom, super grandmother, wonderful cook and an artist who died this year after a long illness from Alzheimer’s disease.
My health is good; many thanks to the folks at MD Anderson for their care. Farming suits me and it is great being in the network of northeast Georgia farmers. This year I added a second garden, more fruit trees and marketed through Northeast Georgia Locally Grown as well as Lucky Leaf Farm.
Toccoa is a perfect place for hiking, biking and canoeing. New friends invited me to participate in the Tugaloo River History Tour by canoe and Tour de Tugaloo Bicycle Ride. Let me know if you want to join one of these adventures next year.
My friend, Bryan Hudson, is working on his Ph.D. at Clemson and I especially enjoy tagging along and helping with his field work. He plans to do more data collection on my property next year.
Progress is being made on my small net zero home. Spent a week with the builder at Northhouse Folk School laying out and cutting the timbers.
Wishing you love, peace and good fortune in the coming year!
