Five miles past Barker Peak we turned off the PCT. I love the PCT, but the TRT is a new adventure. All day we had views of Tahoe Lake, but equally plesent was hiking down into the canyon thru large pines and firs. Thimbleberries were plump and sweet. My fingers were stained red. We hiked with three day hikers and met a south bound PCT through hiker. He just said, “I’m going south.”

Meadows along the trail were dry and the plants brown, but still some flowers managed to bloom. Still the waterfall was certainly a pleasant sight.
As lovely as the rocks and mountains are that type of rock can mean challenging hiking, sore feet, slow progress and aching knees. So we stopped before 2 pm to set up camp in a grove of tall trees by the creek just north of the bridge and spent the afternoon soaking our feet in the river with the sun on our backs.

For dinner I had a delicious Thai Curry that Andy brought me. All the freeze dried meals have been delicious and I’ve used each one for two meals. I will defiantly use freeze dried meals again.

Beccy feels potential hikers should hear about problems encountered as well as the beauty and fun. Its true, some days are hard, gear can get lost or broken, a fall/cut isn’t easy to keep clean, blisters are painful, running out of water can be serious, knees ache going downhill and those are just a few problems. Yet we hike on.
